What will happen if I never activate Windows 10?
If you don’t activate a Windows OS, you will not receive updates for it; and that is bad because it exposes you to unfixed bugs and malware threats . However, I suspect that what the questioner is actually wondering about is what happens if they fail to update a currently activated Windows 7 or 8 machine to Windows 10. In such a case, you can continue to use the existing OS as long as Microsoft continues to support it, and longer if you are willing to take the risk. The upside for updating the OS to Windows 10 is that Microsoft says they will never stop supporting it.
You will be able to use Windows 10 but the only problem that you will be facing is that you will have a “restricted access” to Microsoft specific Applications (Microsoft Office, and other Microsoft apps), and also without your knowing the Windows 10 software will constantly send analysed data of your software (the know-how), to stop this you have to uncheck certain permissions that will be asked will you install your Windows 10 software.
All in all, you will be bothered by an annoying windows watermark on the screen and certain features getting restricted, but will still be able to do “BASIC” stuff.
And just in case if you don’t know your Windows 10 Software will show pop up stating your “Windows is not Activated”
Well still that does not stops you from using the Windows 10 Software
Hope I was able to answer your query 😀
I forgot to activate my W7 before I updated to Windows 10, and you can’t activate it with a different code than what you’ve already used in Windows 7…LSS I can’t activate it, and the only downside is a little watermark that I’ve gotten used to.
So what happens? Nothing. Windows 10 Home or Pro is installed, and you can use it. There are just two limitations that I have come across:
Watermark on the lower right-hand corner saying Activate Windows You cannot use anything under Personalization e.g. change wallpaper, accent colors, lock screen, themes, etc. All options are there, they are just grayed out and inaccessible.
Even there are workarounds to change wallpaper.
It’s better to keep Windows 10 unlicensed rather than using Activators. It’s 2018. And Microsoft is way too lenient this time. Windows will never bother you to activate, and still you’re gonna get ALL, I repeat, ALL updates as usual.
